San Francisco Travel Association President & CEO Visits India

Mumbai: Joe D’Alessandro, President and CEO of San Francisco Travel Association, accompanied by a senior delegation from the association is in India from April 29 to May 1, 2015. Mr. D’Alessandro’s visit underlines the importance of India as one of the fastest growing markets for the city of San Francisco, California. The objectives of this visit are to gain a better understanding of the market, forge new relationships and reinforce established contacts. To achieve these objectives, D’Alessandro will interact with important Indian travel trade stakeholders and members of the media.
The San Francisco Travel Association was the first U.S. city to open their representative office in India through Sartha Marketing in 2007. “India is one of the three most important growth markets for San Francisco Travel along with China and Brazil; and is therefore of tremendous importance to us. In 2014, we witnessed 149,000 Indian travelers visiting the city of San Francisco. India ranks among our top 10 international markets, in terms of arrivals as well as of spending per visitor. Now with enhanced air connectivity, we hope to welcome even more Indian travelers”, D’Alessandro said.  “Almost 40 percent of Indian travelers coming to California visit the city of San Francisco”, he added.
San Francisco Travel has been very active in the Indian market via continuous and ongoing engagement programs with Indian travel agents, giving the city top-of-the-mind recall. San Francisco Travel is also participating in multi-city educational seminars across India, in association with Brand USA. More than 1000 travel agents have participated in these seminars and gained first-hand information on the city to date. Tom Kiely, San Francisco Travel’s Executive Vice President and Chief Tourism Officer, said, “We have been coming to India every year as a regular participant in the annual Brand USA India Mission. The interactive platform allows us to communicate directly with travel companies and we have seen tremendous interest in travel to San Francisco, for both leisure and MICE travel.”
San Francisco Travel Association has recently re-launched their website,, after a complete redesign that provides a wealth of information and inspiration for visitors, meeting planners, travel professionals, media and San Francisco Travel partners, all in a format that is intuitive, objective and deeply curated.
The San Francisco Travel Association is a private, not-for-profit organization that markets the city as a leisure, convention and business travel destination.  With more than 1,500 partner businesses, San Francisco Travel is one of the largest membership-based tourism promotion agencies in the country.
Tourism, San Francisco’s largest industry, generated record-breaking numbers in 2014.  More than 18 million people visited the destination, spending in excess of $10.67 billion. More than 87,000 jobs are supported by tourism in San Francisco.
